What I Do

Counselling individuals, couples, and families in Victoria, Saanich and online since 1991, Margaret Acker is a registered psychologist providing thoughtful, relationship-focused care.

She specializes in couples counselling, using the Imago approach to support healthier communication, emotional connection, and intimacy. She also offers premarital counselling and works with individuals, families, teens, and children, tailoring my approach to each client’s needs.

Therapeutic Approach

Margaret’s therapeutic approach is interactive and solution focused, providing feedback and support to help clients in resolving relationship issues. She uses a variety of methodologies, tailoring her therapy to meet the individual needs of her clients. Margaret’s compassionate yet analytical approach helps clients attain the personal growth and change that they are capable of accomplishing.

Training And Experience

Margaret brings decades of experience in psychology and counselling, supported by extensive training in Imago Therapy, behavioural therapy, and cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT).

She taught Experimental Psychology, Behaviour Modification, Interpersonal Relations, and Advanced Communication Skills in the Psychology Department at Camosun College for 25 years, combining academic rigor with practical, real-world application.

In addition to her teaching career, Margaret has designed and implemented behavioural programs for emotionally and physically challenged children and adults, and has taught numerous parenting courses. Her work reflects a strong foundation in evidence-based practice and a lifelong commitment to learning and professional development.
